New worry for mobile

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

You’ve been battling malware — viruses, worms, spyware and the like — on your PC for years.

Is your phone the next battleground?

Security experts think it could be, particularly if it’s a smart-phone, a handset that has a full operating system and can run applications much like a desktop computer. The more that phones can perform the same functions as PCs, the greater the chance they will have similar vulnerabilities, experts say.

“I’d put it in the looming threat category,” said Natalie Lambert, a senior analyst who covers mobile security issues for Forrester, a technology research firm. “There’s huge potential.”

But experts caution that consumers should put that potential threat in perspective. Other security issues — such as simply losing a phone — are arguably of more concern to mobile phone users today.

“It’s still very early in the game,” said Chris Hazelton, director of mobile and wireless research at the 451 Group, a technology research firm.

Still, phones are indeed vulnerable to the same types of security threats that face PCs. Security experts have so far identified about 500 viruses or other types of malware or security vulnerabilities that target mobile phones.

Perhaps the best known handset virus is Commwarrior-A, a piece of malware identified in 2005 that spread to phones using the then-current version of the Symbian operating system via text messages. But the number of pieces of mobile malware detected since then has grown steadily.

Analysts say there all kinds of ways that mobile malware could make mischief. Hackers have already induced phones to exchange text messages with rogue operators that charge a high per-message fee. Security experts worry hackers could soon use the GPS feature built into many phones to track the location of their owners.

S African health minister loses job

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The dismissal of South Africa’s health minister has raised hopes among HIV/Aids campaigners for a dramatic departure from policies they say have contributed to an acute health crisis in the country with the world’s highest number of people infected with the virus. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang lost her job this week as part of the upheavals that saw Thabo Mbeki’s nine-year presidency brought to a premature end.

Activists welcomed the appointment of her successor, Barbara Hogan, one of the few MPs from the ruling party who spoke out against Mr Mbeki’s stance disputing links between HIV and Aids, saying they hoped for greater spending, especially on preventing transition from mother to child. About 5.6m of South Africa’s 47m population are HIV positive.

Home Business Ideas And Principles

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Having a home business has become one of the easiest way to make money. If you want to be successful doing that, you need to follow a few work from home business principles and ideas. In this article are three things to keep in mind that you must do if you want to earn money working at home.

1. The best way to make money working at home with your own business is to do it on the Internet. To do that you will need a product, a website, and visitors who will actually make a purchase.

This is a key point because the only way to make money on the Internet this way is to actually sell something. The fastest way to get visitors to your website is to do paid advertising.

This is where you actually go out and purchase visitors, or only get billed when a visitor has become a lead. Google Adwords is a pay per click search engine that you can join and create immediate traffic.

You are billed every time a visitor clicks on your ad and is taken to your moneymaking website. The key thing in this work from home business principle is that you must have visitors, and paid advertising is the fastest way to get them.

2. Building your own opt in list is another proven way to work from home and make money. An opt in list is nothing more then a list of subscribers who agree to receive emails from you.

You can purchase these leads which are known as co-registration leads. Or you can develop them yourself by utilizing an auto responder and a landing page with a sign up form on it.

South African President Mbeki to quit

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (CNN) — South African President Thabo Mbeki agreed Saturday to resign, clearing the way for his longtime political rival, Jacob Zuma, to run for the office next spring.
Mbeki has been South African president since 1999.Mbeki plans to meet with his Cabinet on Sunday to discuss his decision, and some Cabinet members might leave in a show of solidarity.

The president made no public comments, and it was unclear when his resignation would take effect.

Gwede Mantashe, secretary-general of the African National Congress, announced at a news conference earlier in the day in Johannesburg that the party — which Mbeki has been involved with since his teens — had asked him to leave before his term was up.

Mantashe said the ANC made the decision “for the citizens of South Africa, so there could be stability within the country” and so the ANC movement could remain “stable and unified.”

“The reaction of President Mbeki to the news, in my own view, was normal. He didn’t display shock or any depression. He welcomed the decision and agreed that he is going to participate in the process and the formalities,” Mantashe said. Video Watch the significance of Mbeki “falling on the sword” for the ANC »

The party’s request to Mbeki came after a judge on September 12 threw out the corruption, fraud and racketeering case against Zuma, calling it invalid and accusing Mbeki’s government of political interference in the case.

The case against Zuma, who is ANC president, was thrown out in September 2006, but the National Prosecuting Authority recharged him. Judge Chris Nicholson made no ruling on Zuma’s guilt or innocence, and he could be recharged.

Political observers doubted that would happen because of Zuma’s popularity with the Communist Party and trade unions.

Zuma has denied the charges. He said the case was politically motivated, and harmed his chances to become the ANC’s presidential nominee.

Zuma had been facing at least 15 years in jail if convicted of accepting bribes from a company that got a contract in a multibillion-dollar arms deal.

He also faced charges of having a corrupt relationship with his former financial adviser, Schabir Shaik, who is serving a 15-year sentence for soliciting bribes for Zuma and using Zuma’s political influence to benefit his businesses.

Mbeki, 66, succeeded Nelson Mandela as president in June 1999. Critics of Mbeki alleged he pushed for the corruption charges against Zuma.

On Monday, Zimbabwe’s political rivals put aside the violent past and signed a power-sharing deal intended to end the crisis that has paralyzed the country since the disputed national elections in March.

Mbeki brokered the deal. Under it, longtime Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe remains president, while his perennial rival, Morgan Tsvangirai, has become prime minister and the coordinator of government.

Trading For A Living

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Trading for a living in the forex market is possible but it’s a fact anyone can learn to trade but most traders fail. They don’t fail because they can’t learn, they simply fall victim to myths or have the wrong mindset.

Before we start lets make the point that only you can give yourself success and that means you have to work smart and learn from the ground up.

Most people who dream of trading for a living are naïve and don’t really appreciate what it takes to succeed and think they will get rich with no effort.

They buy systems from vendors and think they will get rich - but these systems invariably don’t work and the track records they present are all back tested simulations in hindsight! Well that won’t help you going forward and that’s a fact.

Work Smart NOT Hard

No other venture gives you so much reward in terms of the effort you put in.

You can easily learn a simple forex trading system in a few weeks and soon be applying it in 30 minutes a day for triple digit gains.

You don’t get rewarded for the hours you put in or being clever - you get rewarded for being right with your trading signal and that’s it.

Simple is Best

Your forex trading system should be simple and it’s a fact that simple systems work best, as they tend to be more robust, in the face of brutal market conditions - complicated systems have too many elements to break.

We have covered how to build a system in our other articles, so look them up.

Confidence and Discipline are the Keys to Success

If you want to win you need to have confidence in what you are doing, as you will have a losing period, even the best traders have them and so will you.

When you are in a losing period and the market is making you look a fool, you need to stay on course and trade through it with discipline. This means taking your losses and staying on course. If you can’t apply your forex trading strategy with discipline, you don’t have one!

An Inspiring Story to Get You in the Mood….

If you want to trade for a living, here is a true story to get you in the mood.

We have to go back to the eighties when trading legend Richard Dennis decided to prove that anyone could learn to trade with the right education and mindset.

In 14 days he taught his pupils and then set them off to trade. They then made him $100 million in just 4 years and went down in trading history. These were ordinary people and ranged from a kid fresh from school, to a security guard.

You Can Enjoy Currency Trading Success

Now I am not saying you will become as successful as this group, but there is a big difference between something being impossible and something being within your grasp.

Even if you don’t become as successful as the above group you can find success and enjoy a great second income or even a life changing one.

Forex trading is a challenge - but no other industry offers you so much reward for your effort as global forex. If you have a burning desire to succeed and want to trade for a living you can, it’s as simple as that. Good luck!

Interest Only Loan Refinance

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Refinancing of interest only loans simply means swapping one loan for another. It is an effective way to decrease the debt on existing loans. This is especially beneficial if the current interest rates are lower than the interest rates you are presently paying on the loan. Refinancing would enable you to convert your high interest debt into a low interest debt, as the amount of monthly payment would decrease. The extra money saved can be reinvested in something more lucrative like real estate or shares, or to pay off high-interest debts like credit cards. Refinancing is also done for converting an adjustable rate mortgage into a fixed rate mortgage. Refinancing has become so common in recent years that almost three quarters of new mortgages were refinanced loans in 2003.

Refinancing of interest only loans is very attractive, especially when the time comes for the loan to get amortized. That means the loan will have to be repaid at the current interest rate, along with the principle. Most people seek to refinance their interest only loan in order to buy more time, i.e. to delay the repayment of the principle further. However, this may also increase the risk on the loan, since the interest rates may go up further, the price of the house may come down or the economy may slump in the future.

Refinancing of interest only loans is ideal for people who are expecting huge capital gains in the next few years or are planning to sell their house by the time the interest-only period is over. This is a good alternative as long as the economy is good, the interest rates are steady and the prices of houses are increasing. Interest only refinancing is recommended for people who have irregular incomes like commissions or bonuses or those who are expecting a hike in their income in the coming years. The savings accrued from refinancing can also be used for home improvement, which will increase the value of the home in the future.
